Agapanthus 'Black Buddhist'
Lovely summer-flowering plants, with fresh green upright strap leaves, and spherical heads of flowers. These are usually light blue, but there are darker blue and white varieties. The seed heads can sometimes be dried for winter decoration. Agapanthus 'Black Buddhist' is a recent introduction, with large umbels of flowers of bright violet blue on dark green stems. It is reported that when the sun shines on the flowers they take on an almost black hue, hence the name. That suggests either that someone has a vivid imagination, or that the laws of physics have been suspended.
