Patrinia triloba var. palmata
This is a genus that should be better known, with several garden-worthy species, providing colour (usually yellow) after most other plants have finished flowering. They are herbaceous perennials, but some are mat-forming, and are therefore suitable for rock gardens. They all originate from eastern Asia. Patrinia triloba var. palmata is surprisingly little known and grown, but this Japanese plant is easy to grow and provides bright colour for a long time in late summer. It makes a spreading mat of tufts of bright green leaves, palmate, and then produces masses of small, brilliant yellow 5-petalled flowers on short stems.
