Scilla mischtschenkoana
These provide a welcome splash of blue colour early in spring - most of them, for there other colours, and some flower in autumn. They are suited to any part of the garden that doesn't get too dry. The genus has been split into no less than 50 genera, so for a while we will use the name Scilla with the new genus in brackets. Scilla mischtschenkoana is a bit of a mouthful of a name, but the flowers are a very delicate pale blue, with a darker blue stripe along each petal, opening very early in the year. They make a very bright patch of colour, quite distinct from other bulbs flowering at the time.
