Persicaria (Bistorta) bistorta (officnalis) 'Superba' is an excellent variety for the edge of a pond or a damp garden. It makes colonies of mid green foliage above which rise spikes of pink-mauve flowers, which are larger in this variety than in the standard species.

Wide mats with spikes of pink-mauve flowers.
