Oxalis 'Waverley Hybrid'
These lovely spring flowers have clover-like, delicate, fresh green foliage (they are often called shamrocks). The five-petalled, bowl- or cup-shaped flowers open and close depending on the level of sunlight - closing when it's overcast and at night. Oxalis 'Waverley Hybrid' is deep purple with even darker purple veins and a pale rim to each petal. It is sometimes listed as Oxalis enneaphylla 'Waverley Hybrid' - but if it was enneaphylla it wouldn’t be a hybrid! Similarly for O. laciniata 'Waverley Hybrid'. So a hybrid of laciniata and enneaphylla? That would fit the appearance of the leaves, but information about the origins of this lovely plant is hard to come by.
