This is a genus of just two species from South Africa, in the hyacinth family, but looking rather like red-hot pokers, although with pink or white flowers.

Valeriana (Centranthus) ruber 'Albus' is a white form of Valerian. Produces dense cymes of small, fragrant white flowers throughout the summer.
