Asarum canadense
These plants are mainly grown as ground cover, often with marbled leaves. The flowers are usually rather dull colours, and are close to the ground. Asarum canadense is the Canadian wild ginger, which will grow well in deep shade and likes a well-drained soil with plenty of humus. It has kidney-shaped leaves with low cup-shaped flowers of a purple or brown colour. A good plant for the woodland edge.
