Haberlea fernandi-coburgii (rhodopensis) 'Connie Davidson'
Haberleas, like the closely related genus Ramonda, are excellent plants for shady places in the rock garden, crevices and the alpine house. Rosette- and clump-forming, they have thick, fleshy leaves and short-tubed flowers, smaller and less widely opening than those of Ramonda. If they get too dry in summer they shrivel up, but miraculously return to full health within a few days of being watered. See also the closely related genus Haberlea. Haberlea fernandi-coburgii (rhodopensis) 'Connie Davidson' is an excellent form, which can make large clumps of slightly shiny leaves, and has pale purple flowers, darker at the base and white, then yellow, in the throat.
