Spectacular autumn-flowering bulbs, originating in South Africa, these have loose spherical heads, made up of several individual flowers with long, narrow, twisted petals. The most usual colour is a lovely sugary pink, but there are varieties ranging from red to pure white.
Nerine undulata has up to 12 wavy-margined palest pink flowers, constrasting with the deeper red anthers. It is probably not reliably hardy in the UK, but can be grown under glass, where it is valuable as a source of cut flowers.
