Fuchsia magellanica RLC0703 This is a wonderful shrub, widely used as a hedging plant in mild areas of Ireland and the West of Scotland, but perfectly hardy here in the colder East. The soft stems carry rich green foliage, against which the bright red flowers stand out. The flowers hang on the slenderest of stems, each one having an episcopal purple miniskirt (if that doesn't offend your sensibilities). They were known to our children when they were small as dancing ladies. This particular collection came from Argentina.
