This species has most unusual flowers, flaring towards the outer end, but for a long time keeping the tips closed over the end of the tube, giving a curious bulbous appearance. Eventually they do open, a cluster on each stem, usually purplish blue.
Platycodon grandiflorus pumilus is the dwarf form.
