The daffodil. Originally from a wide range of habitats in Europe and N. Africa, there are now thousands of cultivated varieties.
Narcissus papyraceus makes a wonderful house plant, with its strong and lovely scent, and heads of many small, pure white jonquil flowers. The variety 'Paperwhite' is particularly fine.
