These are the larger sedums, which produce vigorous stems of fleshy leaves, and then in early autumn they are topped with broad heads of pink flowers, which are a magnet for butterflies. They die back in winter.
Sedum telephium 'Purple Emperor' is stunning. The fleshy leaves are the darkest red, sometimes described as black, and then there are great massed heads of red flowers with paler centres. A great attraction for humans and butterflies alike.
