These are the larger sedums, which produce vigorous stems of fleshy leaves, and then in early autumn they are topped with broad heads of pink flowers, which are a magnet for butterflies. They die back in winter.
Sedum 'Matrona' is an excellent member of the group of large, autumn-flowering varieties. It is deep red, really maroon, foliage, and deep pink flowers. A fine plant, from when the new growth emerges in spring until the winter frosts.
Other related plants:
Blue-grey rounded leaves with butterfly-attracting heads of pink flowers.
Compact version of 'Autumn Joy'; blue-green foliage and rosy red flowers.
Flat, pale flowering heads bearing many small, starry flowers.
Deepest red - almost black leaves and red flowers; great for butterflies.
