Mitraria coccinea This genus of one species of a woody, evergreen, spreading shrub from moist woodland in Chile and Argentina. The flowers are incredibly vibrant and showy being scarlet and tubular. It would grow best in a woodland garden or sheltered shrub border, and should be protected from severe frosts. It prefers cool, humid climates, liking its roots to be kept cool and shaded, but happy for its top to grow into sunlight. It requires shelter from cold, drying winds.
