This genus includes some splendid plants, variously described as cushions, hummocks and sheep, very difficult to grow. Some of them form flat mats (carpets if you wait a little longer) of tiny, silver leaves, useful in a rock garden, raised bed or trough, to cover spaces between larger plants. There are also various hybrids, usually excellent silver-foliage plants.
Raoulia australis is one of the ones that makes a mat of tiny silver leaves, liberally sprinkled in season with tiny pale yellow flowers.
