Ugni molinae This rarely-seen shrub is an evergreen native of Southern Chile, sometimes known as the Chilean guava. It is cultivated to a small extent for its strawberry-flavoured berries, which are edible and can be made into jam. It has a long succession of small, hanging, pink (occasionally white) flowers followed later in the year by the reddish-purple berries. Queen Victoria reputedly had a fondness for the fruit.
