These hydrid lilies have been bred from many species, to give plants with large, colourful flowers, and that can be expected to flourish in pots of in the garden (and to be free of viruses). There are thousand of varieties, from which these are chosen to give a range of colours, and most are short-stemmed.
Lilium auratum is a strong grower, producing large white flowers, widely flared open, each flower with a yellow band and speckled with red, and with a wonderful fragrance.
