This species makes multiple rosettes of long, narrow leaves, much more slender than those of the familiar Lewisia cotyledon. It has loose, open heads of flowers, in shades of pink, from quite pale to strong magenta. More elegant and refined than L. cotyledon.
Lewisia columbiana 'Rosea' is a form with particularly rich pink - described as carmine - flowers.
