Paris is a genus related to Trillium, sharing the characteristic of having a whorl of leaves surmounted by a single flowers. But instead of having three leaves, petals, etc., they have four or more. They come from mixed woods in Europe and Asia, but not America. The flowers are followed by fleshy fruit, which in some cases open to reveal showy red seeds.
