Cypripedium

Cypripediums are the Lady's slipper orchids, so-called because of the shape of the lower lip, which is pouch- or slipper-like; above the pouch are three gently curling tepals. They are terrestrial orchids and are hardy, requiring a shady spot. Many hybrids are now being produced in bulk, and these should also make long-lived garden plants once they are established. They like sheltered and shaded places, but also like morning sun.
