Astragalus

This is a huge genus, with hundreds of species, most of them really beautiful. Alas, they are also mainly difficult to grow, at least in the climate of Britain. They generally make clumps or tufts of divided leaves, often silkily hairy, and can be covered with richly coloured flowers, sometimes followed by spectacular inflated seed pods. At least some of the American ones are highly poisonous to cattle.
