Tulbaghia natalensis
This genus of bulbs from the Eastern Cape of South Africa is related to the onions (Allium), with the characteristic foliage smell. It has umbels of flowers, which can be quite showy, each flower with a small corona, the structure much like that of some of the small Narcissus. Tulbaghia natalensis is beautifully fragrant - its scent is like spiced almonds. A long stem emerges from narrow leaves with heads of creamy flowers with yellow centres. It likes to be kept fairly dry in winter.
