Phlox paniculata 'Spitfire'
These are the herbaceous perennials, not the dwarf alpine kinds. They provide good colour for quite a long period, and make good clumps quite quickly, but should be split before they get too large, to keep them vigorous. Phlox paniculata 'Spitfire' has brilliant red flowers, but its appearance is also enhanced by the leaves, which have a dark red tinge to them.
