Nerine bowdenii
Spectacular autumn-flowering bulbs, originating in South Africa, these have loose spherical heads, made up of several individual flowers with long, narrow, twisted petals. The most usual colour is a lovely sugary pink, but there are varieties ranging from red to pure white. Nerine bowdenii is a really good autumn-flowering bulb, in Britain doing best against a south-facing wall or on a sunny bank, where it will produce its substantial sugar-pink flowers for many years.
