Lovely deciduous shrubs with wonderfully scented white flowers, they are sometimes known as orange blossom, and were sometimes called syringa, which is the Latin name for lilac. They are all well worth growing.

Philadelphus 'Belle Etoile' is an outstanding variety of a genus of wonderful plants. It has large, single, white flowers, but with a flush of maroon at the centre of each flower.
