Malus hupehensis

Malus hupehensis was introduced from Sichuan in China by Ernest Wilson, who thought that it was the finest flowering tree that he introduced - and that is saying something. It has masses of flowers of the palest pink, which open from rosy pink buds. Then in autumn there are lots of yellow crab apples that are red on one side, which usually remain on the tree into winter, and these contrast with the crimson to purple foliage.

Magnificent crab apple with pink buds opening to palest pink flowers.
