A group of bulbs from damp meadows in N. America. They produce tall, branched flower spikes bearing large, starry or cup-shaped flowers, in shades of blue, purple or white. Apply winter mulch for protection against frost. The bulbs of C. quamash were eaten by N. American Indians.

Camassia leichtlinii subsp. suksdorfii Caerulea Group has unusually dark blue, starry flowers.
