These are compact ericaceous shrubs, with grey-green leaves and cluster of small, hanging, urn-shaped flowers, contracted at the mouth. They look good with other ericaceous shrubs, such as cassiopes, phyllodoces and dwarf rhododendrons, and like similar conditions. It is a British wild plant - bog rosemary.

Andromeda polifolia 'Grandiflora' is an excellent Japanese cultivar of this valuable species, with big, pink flowers that appear in late spring from a broad, spreading base of thick evergreen foliage.
