At home in America this is known as the skunk cabbage, because the flowers, like those of many arum relatives, are rather pongy, to attract pollinating insects. In fact, although we have grown them in the garden at home for decades, we have never noticed any odour at all. Just don't use them as cut flowers. The plants, which grow in really wet places, have huge leaves, which eventually are flat on the ground, and very large flowers, with a brilliant yellow spathe and a slightly paler yellow spadix. If you have a wet place - ideally along the line of a ditch - and the space, this is great.
