Known not only as the golden spider lily, but as the St. Augustine lily, the named lily, and the hurricane lily. And the Mandarin name translates as 'suddenly the earth smiles'. All that suggests as well-known and well loved flower, and rightly so. It is large heads of narrowed-petalled, bright golden yellow flowers, a bit like a golden Nerine, but larger and even more impressive. Widely used as a cut flower. Hardy to about -2 degrees, so probably lift and store the bulbs in winter.
