This is an alpine from south-eastern Australia, a country in mourning today after a splendid Ashes test match series in which they came second. Mustn't gloat. The plant makes spreading mats f grey-green foliage, and has single flowers with a yellow disc centre and papery white petals (actually bracts). These flowers can be cut for decoration, and as they which retain their colour when dried, this plant has considerable value beyond the rock garden. For good measure, cutting the flowers prunes the plants, which respond by putting on new growth and flowering again. It used to be called Helipterum albicans, and has a popular name of Hoary Sunray.
