Iris latifolia

Habitat: scrub

Height: 60 cm

This is the English iris, which comes from Spain and thereabouts, not to be confused with the Spanish iris. It comes from quite large bulbs, sending up long leaves, followed by a strong stem carrying several flowers, in many varieties of very intense colour. They are all easy to grow, ideal in a sunny place.

Iris latifolia has the most intense, deep purple flowers, strikingly marked with yellow.
