This dwarf iris is a delight in the wild, where it make spreading mats of rhizomes in yak-grazed meadows, with a long succession of small, purple flowers, each one tight down against the ground. It doesn't seem to flower so freely in cultivation, maybe because we are not generous enough with yak dung.

Iris ruthenica var. nana is from cultivated stock, which can from several sources, and which we have grown for many years.
