This species is an evergreen shrub with glossy, dark green leaves, which can reach 3 m in height. However, this collection is from a high alpine variant, which was no more than 20 cm high. It looks as if it may revert to the full size, but it is possible that it is genetically dwarf. In summer fragrant, pink flowers are produced in cone-shaped panicles.
