Crocuses are one of the delights of spring - although even the so-called spring-flowering varieties bloom in later winter. Usually the first flowers are out at the end of January in eastern Scotland, and they can carpet the ground over the next couple of months.

Crocus etruscus is an easy species, flowering early, and soon multiplying. The flowers are basically silvery white outside, but with violet veins, and inside the flowers are darker, purplish blue.
