These spring-flowering plants, in an amazing range of colours, have round bulbs, which usually split into two every year, so it is a simple matter to build up a good stock. Most will grow well outdoors without protection, in cool, shady places, flower magnificently in spring, and then rapidly die down and disappear – so they are great interplanted with things that display themselves later in the season.
Corydalis paczoskii is a reliable and relatively straightforward species from the Ukraine, with spikes of long-spurred flowers, lilac-pink with darker red tips over glaucous, grey-blue foliage.
