A group of bulbs from damp meadows in N. America. They produce tall, branched flower spikes bearing large, starry or cup-shaped flowers, in shades of blue, purple or white. Apply winter mulch for protection against frost. The bulbs of C. quamash were eaten by N. American Indians.

		Camassia quamash has a long, pyramidal spike of starry flowers, quite a light blue. Excellent naturalised in grass, or grown in groups in a border.
		Camassia quamash 'Blue Melody' is a variety smaller than usual, with blue, cup-shaped flowers and variegated foliage.
