This is a superb architectural plant, which makes a tuft or clump of strap-like leaves, silvery, arching. The flowers, many of them, small and greenish yellow, are held on a multiply branched stem, and are followed by yellow-orange fruit - but it is the foliage that is the glory of this plant. It comes from Chatham Island, off the New Zealand coast, at low altitude. It isn't completely hardy in the UK, so some winter protection may be helpful, and good drainage is also important.
