Despite its identity crisis, as this plant is known as Korean mint, Indian mint, blue licorice, purple giant hyssop and various other things, it is worthy perennial, flowering over a long period from early summer through into autumn. It has erect stems, carrying heads of many blue-purple flowers, opening in succession until the spike is 10 cm long. For good measure the leaves and flowers has a smell likened to both spearmint and licorice.
