Welcome to our ninth catalogue of plants. We are able to offer you a huge number of plants, drawn from all over the world. Germination has been superb this year and the warm and wet (again!) conditions have led to very healthy growth. Many rare plants germinated and we are delighted to be able to offer a very unusual selection.
We grow most of these plants in our own garden, and hope that you will want to try them in yours.
There is a minimum order of £20 worth of plants, but we give a free plant to all whose order is more than £30.
Information about how to order plants, and the terms and conditions involved in placing an order, are also available on-line. A printed catalogue (which doesn't have the pictures or the more extended descriptions of plants that are in the on-line catalogue) can also be sent by post, on receipt of four first class stamps. Click here for our address.
Plant names are usually in Latin, often with an English name for the particular cultivated variety. Why do we use Latin names?
All of our plants and selections have been allocated a 3-digit code and number, e.g. ABC-9, found before the name in the catalogue. Please quote this to help us to process your order quickly.
We will send plants to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, wedding or Christmas. You can send silver, ruby or gold plants for appropriate anniversaries. You can make your own selection or ask us to choose to a given value. State the delivery date and the message you want on the card.

You can buy our plants at plant stalls at shows, or where one of us is giving a lecture, or when the garden is open. We have also support the Edinburgh Farmers' Market on Castle Terrace, every Saturday from late February to the end of May, and on some Saturdays in the autumn. You can save on delivery costs by arranging to pick up an order at one of these events. See the list of events for details.
Are you building a rockery, developing a pond, or revamping the herbaceous border? Do you want to bring more colour into your garden? Do you need ground cover for a difficult area?
We can help.
Let us know the type of border, area, aspect, soil and budget, and we will get into action.
We aim to provide plants of high quality. They are grown in a low-peat compost, with bark, loam and grit, outside or in unheated alpine tunnels. They have not been forced on for a quick, lush effect. The plants should be hardy and sturdy, and when planted should soon extend their roots beyond the original compost from the pot.
However, we are attempting to grow many things that are rarely seen in cultivation. We cannot guarantee you success with them. Some plants are naturally short-lived - but so is an arrangement of cut flowers, or a slap-up dinner from a top restaurant!
There are always new challenges facing us as we continue to develop the business. Please give us feedback on our plants and the service we give. It is good to be both encouraged and challenged.
